1. If you have colour treated hair or chemically processed damaged hair, a sulphate free shampoo is a lot more gentle. Curly, frizzy hairs retain lot more moisture with a sulphate free shampoo. Other shampoos that have sulphate can strip the hair and scalp of its natural oils and make it dry. Similarly dry, flaky irritated scalp can also benefit from using a sulphate free shampoo. Consider using SLS free conditioner too

  2. If you have dry, flaky scalp opt for regular hot oil massages. Leave the oil in for 40 mins and wash off

  3. Deep condition hair once a week if your have dry, damaged hair. Use a heavy conditioning cream, spread it all over the hair, cover with a shower cap and sit under a hood dryer or use a hair dryer for 10-15 mins. Rinse off with cold water for super silky soft hair

  4. If you have curly hair and want to keep your curls, its important to not shampoo frequently. You can wash with a conditioner and alternate this conditioner wash with a shampoo wash

  5. A deep cleansing or clarifying shampoo maybe good to use once in a while to help remove buildup from using styling products

  6. Use a heat protection spray before heat styling your hair. Moroccan oil or argan oil spray can be used

  7. Avoid tight hair styles and tight hair bands that tug hairs at the temples. This may lead to traction alopecia or balding at the areas where the hair is constantly being pulled

  8. Eat iron and calcium rich foods. Ensure you are eating enough protein

  9. Minimize stress. Get a good 8 hrs sleep everyday

  10. Hair loss can be minimized and controlled if advice and treatment are sought early. If there is any itching, pain or burning on the scalp, see your dermatologist. There are several medical conditions like psoriasis, excessive dandruff, fungal infections etc that can affect the scalp causing hair loss. Chemically treated hair if not done properly can also cause hair fall and brittle hair hence its important to seek a good hairstylist

  11. Apart from correct supplementation, there are treatments like PRP (platelet rich plasma) which can be done to arrest hair fall and promote growth. These are done by a doctor in a skin/cosmetology clinic. PRP uses plasma from your own blood that is rich in platelets. Blood is taken out of the arm and spinned in a centrifuge to collect the platelet rich plasma. This is injected into the scalp with a baby syringe after having numbed the skin. Hair fall is decreased after 1-2 sessions itself and a minimum of 8 treatments are required to see the increase in density. The sessions can be done every fortnight apart

  12. In some cases where hair fall is severe you maybe put on some medication and prescribed some anti hair loss shampoos and oils
